How shares are allotted
When the retail category is oversubscribed, the registrar runs a computerised lottery so that as many applicants as possible get one minimum lot. That is why applying for several lots doesn't raise a retail applicant's chances. Small and big non-institutional investors are allotted their minimum application size by lottery too, while qualified institutional buyers get shares in proportion to their bids.
